Parole Boards feel obligated to hold the victim's families of said crimes, tightly to their bosom, which is expected of them by law abiding citizens. But, what most citizens are oblivious to is the other side of the fence.
Many family members of offenders are left with incomprehensible thoughts, as to why parole commissioners choose to deny applicants release, often for no substantial reason. Prisoner's loved ones, who are not savvy with Executive Law 259-I (NY) and all the statutory factors within that govern parole panels, normally operate as the laymen of society.
In their minds, if prisoners have themselves in accordance to the rules and regulations of the department of corrections, and fully understands the amount of impact they have caused to the victim(s) and those affected by their crimes. In addition to, changing former mindsets by taking advantage of any therapeutic programs that facilitates their objectives, should qualify incarcerated individuals for release into society.
Some of the relatives, somberly shared how the board's adverse decisions ripped apart their desires of being reunited with loved ones, after a significant time that has been wedged between them. A tearfully devoted wife and mother, voiced her pain, "I completely empathize with crime victims it's a terrible thing when some one or multiple persons are violated in the worst way nobody deserves it, but I also believe in second chances especially when change is genuine". She further informed us that the commissioners were bias in her husband's hearing because the facts stated in their reason for denial is not the person she knows.
The problem with parole board is the trusted factor is often left out when considering to release violent offenders. How do the family members of incarcerated individuals continue to support these elected officials, who callously inflict pain upon them, without any consideration how their adverse decisions plays a vicious role? One must admit the human heart was created whole: If the parole panel has the capacity to feel for the crime victims(s) then it must also show compassion to the family members of offenders because justice should enable society to empathize with all.
